INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
As it is International Women’s Day today I would like to pay tribute to women. To the women who were considered witches and burnt at the stake; the Suffragettes who gave their lives for the liberty of women; the women who fought in wars; the women who stayed at home and ran communities and countries during war time; the women who burnt their bras; the feminists who were ridiculed; the poets, writers, artists, engineers, actors, songwriters, musicians, inventors, vets, sports women, activists, architects, scientists, pilots, doctors, midwives, teachers, housewives who were never acknowledged; the women who were only considered important for their looks; the women who felt ashamed; the women who are mothers; not mothers, want to be mothers, single mothers, step mothers, mothers who had their children taken, women who didn’t want to be mothers, who were mothers for too short a time, the mothers who nurse their sick children; the women who have lost their own mothers; the women who have overcome illness; the women who are single, separated, divorced, widowed, remarried; the women who said no; the women who said yes; the women that stood out of line; the women who lead, inspired and supported; the women who are gay, straight, transgender. Let’s stand up, celebrate and be proud to be Women. It’s been a long journey. Let’s be grateful for the women around us, before us, and for our younger generation, let’s teach them this Herstory.
